The Canadian Society of Transplantation (CST) hosts an annual conference, which will take place in Vancouver in October.

Researchers and clinicians submit abstracts (summaries) of their scientific work in plain language. These are reviewed by peers from the scientific committee and patient, family, donor research partners to determine whether these abstracts are suitable for the annual conference.

This role is asking 10 PFD partners to review approximately 12-13 abstracts. The top-rated abstracts are also selected for awards.

Experience required

  • PFD partners with an interest in reviewing and learning about new scientific research in transplantation and/or donation, from Canadian and international researchers and trainees.

Potential roles for PFD Partners

  • Read and provide scores on lay/plain language summaries using an online portal and a scoring sheet.
  • Each abstract is approximately 150 - 200 words. You will then use a scoring grid on a scale from 1 - 5 to answer 5 questions.
  • PFDs also have the opportunity to provide written feedback.
  • Abstracts will be scored on a 1–5 scale across the following criteria:
    1. Originality and Innovation - Is the topic meaningful to PFDs?
    2. Project Approach - Does the project consider the perspectives and implications for PFDs?
    3. Results - Are the results clearly presented?
    4. Clarity of Writing - Is the language appropriate for a lay audience?
    5. Relevance  - How relevant is the topic to donation and transplantation?

Reimbursement

  • $200 for participating in this patient engagement opportunity.
