Caring for individuals who are solid organ transplant candidates or recipients places a heavy burden on informal caregivers, often resulting in stress, fatigue, and poor health for the caregiver. Furthermore, these unpaid caregivers are the backbone of the system with an estimated $30 to $40 billion of free caregiving a year nationally in Canada.
This proposal aims to fund three to four 2-hour workshops in partnership with CDTRP to foster a national collaboration among clinicians, researchers, community partners, caregivers and patient representatives. The goal is to
- Identify service gaps and co-design a robust plan for future support programs and research for caregiving and support of those with solid organ transplantation.
- Key deliverables will include discussions on best practices, identifying a short list of fundable, multi-site research projects, and establishing a national network for caregiver support and well-being.
Experience required
We are looking for 2 caregivers and 2 patient partners that would be interested in assisting with grant development, but more time commitment during the one-year refining topics on caregiver well-being.
Presently, the 2 hour sessions (3-4 sessions) will include:
- Optimizing Caregiver Wellbeing (multimodal exercise, nutrition and mental health
- Understanding the interaction between Caregivers and Patients health
- Actionable Resources available for Caregivers; Strategies
- Discussion for Future Research Ideas and Grant Development.
Potential roles for PFD Partners
Please see above but looking for 2 caregivers with solid organ transplant candidates/recipients as family members and 2 solid organ transplant recipients. Anticipate about 10-15 hour commitment from these PFD partners.
